<p><em>Advances in Library & Information Science is a peer-reviewed journal published by the Department of Library & Information Science, University of North Bengal, West Bengal, India. The target audience of the journal includes librarians, information scientists, specialists, managers and educators. The journal aims at publishing the research papers with the most recent issues and developments in the field. All papers are subject to a double-blind reviewing process. <p><span class="fontstyle2">Literature class is an example of the use of faceted concepts by Dewey Decimal Classification. There have been many changes in literature class in different editions of DDC and 23</span><span class="fontstyle2">rd </span><span class="fontstyle2">edition is not an exception. In 2011, this 23</span><span class="fontstyle2">rd </span><span class="fontstyle2">edition is published and while experimenting with this edition, some experiences related to its serious limitations which are still existed are gathered. A few of them are presented in this article to share with fellow professionals. <p><span class="fontstyle0">The study attempts to explore which resources on the rich local history and culture of North Bengal are already available in the college libraries of the North Bengal so that they can be utilized in a better way to present to its user community. The work gives a<br>brief discount of North Bengal and its culture. 50% of the total colleges present here were surveyed with the help of structured questionnaires to collect data on the existing resources specified. Colleges are selected by stratified random sampling. The study finds that maximum hill college libraries i.e. 94% (app.) whereas overall 53% (app.) college libraries have such collection. The study suggests the creation of an institutional repository through the formation of a regional consortium to protect and promote the undocumented rich culture of North Bengal. </span></p>Ratna NandiPijushkanti PanigrahiDurga Sankar Rath

<p><span class="fontstyle0">This paper deals with a brief overview of Content<br>Management Systems (CMSs). There are many open source<br>and proprietary CMSs in the domain like Atex, Polopoly web CMS, IBM Enterprise Content Management system, Drupal, Joomla!, Mambo, PhpWebSite, Scoop, Plone etc. A comparative study is carried out through this study on the basis of some selection criteria. The selection criteria are installation base, OS platform, companion software environment, module and extensibility, web 2.0 compatibility, License and application in library setup. Next, it discusses how the advent of the modern technology has transformed library services and its reflection on people’s lives. The paper also highlights the journey of the library towards digitization. <p><span class="fontstyle0">The entire educational infrastructure has been revolutionized by ICT. In a distributed educational setup, ICT has made it possible to capture and deliver contents to students, faculty and other information seekers creating a situation where eLearning becomes more appealing. The use of ICT made it possible to have access to most up-to-date information when and wherever people want to have at their convenience. The modus is becoming more user friendly with a wide array of user friendly open source applications. In this paper the role and significance of content users is discussed in context of semantic eLearning systems. The ontology characteristics and advancement in eLearning is also discussed.
